Kenya Peaberry Plus

Peaberry, Shade Grown, Hand-sorted

Tangerine, Raspberry, Green Apple

This Kenya Peaberry Plus is from Kirinyaga county and produced by the local cooperative society, Baragwi.

Along the lower, forested edges of Mt. Kenya, where elevation is high and the soil is mineral-rich, there lie communities of growers who produce some of the best coffees in Kenya.

Kirinyaga county is one of the smallest of these counties, and they have produced this outstanding Peaberry coffee.

General Flavor Observations
Kenya Peaberry Plus

The softer tones and medium body presented by this Kenya Peaberry coffee is something to be treasured.

With the first sip, you will know this is a great Kenyan coffee.
Tangy and bright acidity presents itself early on then tapers into a sweet, round mouth-feel with great balance and a dry finish.
The profile is underscored by a nice complexity, with soft notes of cocoa and fruit tones.

While many Kenyan coffees can be intensely wine-toned, this wonderful peaberry coffee lends itself to a more mellow profile, yet retains a pleasingly dry finish.

Complex and subtle, with a focus on quality rather than impact.
Truly a unique offering and not to be missed!

Roast Level Profile Notes
Kenya Peaberry Plus

My recommended roast level is Full City for an outstanding experience in the cup.

We are always happy to accommodate any roast level you prefer.
The notes below illustrate how changing the roast will alter the profile.

City Roast (light roast)

Our City roast will provide a profile that is very bright and herbaceous.
Plenty of fruit tones in the cup, with a cocoa nibs and graham cracker base, and a prominent tannic finish.
If you are a true fan of light roasted coffees, you will surely enjoy the coffee at this roast.

Full City Roast (medium roast) - Preferred

Our Full City roast is perfect for bringing out the best balance of attributes in this Kenya peaberry.
The body will be medium and nicely rounded, with a smooth mouth-feel and a nice base of cocoa.
The fruit tones up front will offer raspberry, then taper into tangerine.
The cup rounds itself out with a wonderfully soft, sparkling, winey finish.

Full City (+) Roast

This roast level is where the mouth-feel becomes noticeably silkier and the body presents a bit more depth.
The fruit tones become juicier and more currant-like, with darker chocolate tones.
The acidity softens slightly, with a mellow, sweet, and lingering finish.

Vienna Roast

This roast will provide a juicier body with darker, bittersweet chocolate notes, and the finish will be more pointed.
Nice, but perhaps pushing the limit that this coffee can endure.

French Roast

Not recommended.

Additional Information
Kenya Peaberry Plus

Coffee from Kenya is dominated by a cooperative system of production, whose members vote on representation, marketing and milling contracts for their coffee, as well as profit allocation.

The farmers, who produced this particular coffee, average less than 300 pounds of picked cherry each!

Kenya coffees are sold competitively by quality, and these smallholder farmers, each with a few hundred coffee trees at the most, have produced this wonderful offering.
